Primary Tap & Modern

Primary Tap & Modern is an introduction to both styles suitable for school age children in Reception ad Year 1. It combines 20 minutes of tap, 20 minutes of modern (and 5 minutes to change shoes!).

Primary Tap start with a “warm up song”. They also learn basic steps such as stamps, steps, heal beats, step heal, toe taps and shuffles.  The children are encouraged to recognize the difference between loud and soft beats, and start to work on basic rhythms in preparation for the ISTD tap syllabus.

Modern and tap encourage self-discipline, self expression, allowing children to develop their listening skills and also encourage children to follow instruction. Mini Groovers helps children learn to work both as an individual and in a group, developing co-ordination, good posture, strength and suppleness, and also a chance to be free to express themselves to the music.

UNIFORM

For Modern and Tap, children should wear our royal blue leotard with black shorts or leggings and Tap and Jazz shoes.
