Intermediate RAD Ballet
RAD Intermediate ballet is suitable for pupils who have completed RAD Grade 5 ballet or equivalent, and is recommended for those pupils who wish to pursue dance professionally.

Beginners age 12 and up who wish to study RAD grades are recommended to start off in the Wednesday evening General Ballet class, and then be assessed and placed in a suitable RAD Graded class after a couple of terms. RAD Intermediate constitutes Level 3 of the RAD’s vocational syllabus and is equivalent to an A Level or NVQ Level 3. RAD Intermediate is accepted as the benchmark of achievement by Vocational Schools which are attended by the majority of young dancers intending to enter the profession. They are also taken into account by universities and other HE institutions offering degree courses and programmes in dance and dance teacher education. Successful passing of the Intermediate exam carries UCAS points.Click here to discover more.
The Intermediate syllabus challenges and inspires students technically, artistically, musically and creatively with exercises that encourage critical thinking and physical fitness while also developing a sense of theatre, movement dynamics and musical interpretation.
Pointework becomes part of the examinable criteria in Intermediate ballet, and the students are also expected to perform a Variation, for which they can wear a classical tutu or short wraparound skirt. Intermediate uniform is a black leotard. Character work is no longer part of the examination syllabus.
